Maritime Teardrop / Tiny Camper Owners Group - Camping at Smiley's Provincial Campground

Sept. 23rd to 25th

I was thinking early in the summer it would be great to get a group of Teardrop / Tiny Camper owners together.  While I was walking thru Blomidon Provincial Park, I came across this Tiny Tent trailer and almost walked by and then thought, no, the owner is there, I should go in and have a chat. Her camper really intrigued me and after talking to Gwen, I thought, I am going for it.  This is Gwen's Tiny Tent trailer.(Lee-Surelite)  I guess, besides myself, she was the first member of the group.

I started about mid July advertising on Kijiji with explaining that I was looking for any and all Teardrop / Tiny camper owners in the Maritimes.  As of today, there are 23 in the group from Teardrop owners to Tiny Tent trailer owners to Molded Fiberglass  models.

I decided that it would be great to get as many folks as we can from the group for a camping weekend it this was it!   I was happy considering the weather forecast, including myself, 5 showed up and even in the rain, we had a good time!

Ed finished building his Teardrop in 2008. This was the first trip he made without his wife.  This is also the first time he had to setup the tent without Vicki.  He did a great job!  He was also the only guy on this trip!  Brave man.

His tear is really sweet and well constructed.  The cabinetry shows off his craftsmanship.  Really nice, well thought out and there were some surprises in there that really showed off his innovation!

Gwen arrived right behind Ed!  The weekend was looking up!

I already had my site pretty well setup when Ed and Gwen got there.  I decided I had better get the tarp up for cover just in case we did get a little rain!!  Boy, am I glad I put it up!!  We had a little rain Friday evening but it rained non stop all day Saturday.  A couple of times it looked like it was going to stop and then, it would start again! :-((((

Lesley was the next to show and the smile on my face was getting bigger!  She came with her Littly Guy, 6' Wide unit!  I am really jealous, she has a king size bed in that unit.  She needs it though, she came with 2 of her god daughters, Star and Alecia(sorry if I spelled her name wrong?), great kids!

Last, but most definitely not least, Susan got there around 10:00 pm Friday night.  I had pretty well given up on her but then suddenly we saw some lights coming around our section an sure enough, there was Susan.  She also owns a home built Teardrop.  This is a real interesting unit as well, although it looks like it is clad in aluminum, actually, it is Fiberglass.  The doors are another interesting feature on this one.  They are actually windows!  Really neat!

Everyone had there own site but we used my site as the gathering point for the most part.  I had a really large site and I had the tarp.  It worked well!  We had a fire both nights but we were all under the tarp!

Ed gave all of us a lesson in cooking over an open fire with cast iron!  I now know what I want for xmas and it isn't my two front teeth!  Our pot luck consisted of beans & wieners, hamburger stew, fresh brown bread muffins, bannick, fresh biscuits, german potato salad, ginger cake, strawberry/rhubarb pie.  And yes, the rain had finally let up!  Good thing is, it may have been raining all day but it was warm!

Gwen's camper really folds up neat!  Amazing how much storage there is when you fold it up.  Gwen closes it the way I would, sit on it and latch it!!  Works just fine!!! lol

Gwen, Susan and myself all left together.  Too bad that Ed and Lesley were already gone but next time hopefully we will all be able to leave around the same time and get a bigger group pic.  It was kinda funny that there is a nice large fifth wheel in the background!!

All in all, even with the rain, I think everyone had a real good time and plan on 2 trips next year.  Hopefully more of our group members will be able to join us in the spring?!

Labour Day Weekend - Me and Gypsy at the River...

Sept. 2nd to Sept. 5th

I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago and could not decide what to do for the long weekend.  They have a beautiful Cottage on the River Phillip and suggested I go there for the weekend?  What a great idea!

I lucked out again, found this wonderful private camping site!  The funny thing is I have know this cottage for years before my friends ever bought it!  I use to go to Pugwash with other friends to their cottage every year and whenever we went to Oxford, I would always look down from the road and envy the folks that appeared to have such a great cottage!  Then Brenda told me one day they were buying a cottage just outside Oxford and it was an A frame!

They have a back porch that is right on the river and it is all screened in!  You can just sit there for hours watching the wildlife go by!  So quiet and  pristine!  The guys are just sitting there talking waiting for us fools to get back from our tubeing adventure.

We learned a very important lesson.  Tubeing here is not like tubeing in the valley!  Especially when it is on a Tidal River...hahahahaha  We left about 2 hours before the tide was full?  Although we were quite a bit up the river, the tide still reaches up the river and really slows going down the river, like yeh, pushes you back up the river.  lol

Sunday night, the river was dead calm!

The driveway is 1/2 a km twisting by a field to get in.  The birds a lovely to hear and see.  All in all I had an absolutely great weekend, really enjoyed my hosts, their other guests and just the peace and tranquility!

Weather:  Hot and Sunny all weekend.  Friday night temp dropped to 13, Saturday was around 18 and Sunday night 22!  too hot for sleeping and no wind.

Cost:  Be a good guest, pull your weight!  The Host cooks for you so at least you can do the dishes if she lets you??   Too bad for the rest of you, it is by invitation only//:-))
